Channel Bonding Mode

The PMA Direct interface supports a bonding mode in which you use multiple TX and RX lanes together.

Table 1. Bonding Mode Permutations
x1 x2 x4 x8 Lane/Quad Bonding Clock Source to Fabric
(Default, but flexi for user to choose in Efinity GUI)
TX x2: L0-L1, L2-L3
x4: L0-L3
x2: L1, L3
x4: L1
RX x2: L0-L1, L2-L3
x4: L0-L3
x8: 1Q0-Q1, 2Q2-Q3, 3Q1-Q2
x2: L1, L3
x4: L1
x8: 1Q0 L1, 2Q2 L1, 3Q1 L1

The PMA Direct interface does not support x8 bonding mode for TX because of the different clock networks between the transceiver quads. The phase compensation FIFO and PHY PMA FIFO can potentially lead to unpredictable data skew for TX x8 bonding mode.

In RX x8 bonding mode, the TX channel is held in reset with all ports tied off.
